Great way to reply there mate, you came across as if you were ready for a mature civilised discision.

I agree with Racechick. I would've mentioned this earlier too had I've thought of it! What Alonso did was exactly like what Piquet has done. He snitched for 2 reasons: he was sooking about not being given preferential treatment and he only snitched when he was brought in front of the stewards, by that time he didn't care if he was getting a contract or not, he was leaving them anyway. Exactly the same as Piquet.

Yeh your right about the fact Alonso tried to blackmail Mclaren into giving him number one status - but Dennis called his Bluff.

But he did not go to the FIA he went to Ron and your just speculating about what he might of done once he left Mclaren.

But the fact is Alonso didn't actualy do anything wrong in the sense that he commited no espionage.

Wheras Piquet actualy crashed his car so thefore should be banned from F1 and Any FIA sanctioned sports like Flav has been.

I now respect Alonso, because he has proven himself. But all you guys here are chucking s*** at Piquet because you hated him to start off with. Don't give me all the Alonso is God crap. All your viewpoints about Piquet are strictly bias, and he should be given just as much a chance as Alonso was.

I don't Hate Piquet, - i think his dad's abit of a nasty peice of work but when piquet came into the sport i had no dislike or like towards him at all.

And i don't Think Alonso is God either.

But If what Piquet did could of been so much worse now i know your part of the god squad right.

So one of the 10 cmndments is tho shall not kill - well piquet could of killed fans, Marshalls or another driver what do you think about that?

Alonso would've continued lying if he wasn't brought in front of the stewards, and he most likely would've snitched on them when he was safely out of McLaren. On top of that he is an extremely professional driver and a dual world champion. He should've known better than Piquet, who was in his debut season.

Piquet was in his 2nd season and hes 24 years old, he knew it was wrong and i'm sure he knew of the possible consiquences but he did it anyway.

Your comparing somone reading some data and disucssing it with somone doing somthing that could of KILLED somone.

Its a daft comparrison.

On top of that Alonso drove that McLaren knowing very well that it wasn't legit, yet he still drove, and he even won races in that car, knowing full well that what he was doing wrong. I think it's interesting that Briatore was banned forever from the sport and Symonds for 5 years, while Piquet got nothing. Why? Because he is less innocent than them.

The car was Legit it was checked by the FIA, if Ferrari stuff had been found on the 2007 Mclaren i can tell you now it wouldn't of been able to race.

He is Less innocent? so he's more guilty then?

He got no punishment because he came forward when it was confirmed he would get immunity.

Max Mosley should go all leathal weapon him and revoke it then shoot :P ...i mean ban him

He is also less innocent than Senna, Prost, Schumacher and Alonso in the spy-gate scandal.

Don't understand? what your saying here??
I hope to see Piquet back in the sport next year...

I hope he never drives in F1 ever again. He could of killed somone he turned the wheel and pressed the accelerater.

If somone told you to shoot somone would you?

Will you please stop responding to every argument with "your views are all biased", it's getting a bit old now. If you can't defend your position without dismissing ours as biased, and thus worthless, then please just shut up, you've already lost.

Hi Bill ... just love that last comment... keep up the good work stressing fatso.... anyway Big Azza - piquet back in F1 ??? I dont think so ---- I dont think anybody will touch him unless daddy dearest pay somebody to take him....! ALL the teams are guilty of something at some point and i dont see anybody taking the risk of taking in a snitch....
#156155
He is speaking much more maturaly now, he should now just go somewhere to rebuild his career and reinvent himself - meritocraticly not with daddy, when this has all blown over and he has evidence he is a quick driver then is the time to try and get back in f1.

What evidence? He was painfully slow during his first full season in F1 and that is why he was kept at arms length by Flav. It only got worse during the first half of his second season with yet more woeful performances. Add that his crazy father will be perpetually in the background ready to strike if you are the slightest bit critical I would keep Piquet Jr as far away from my team as possible.

I said when he has evidence he is a quick driver. I agree he has none now, if he wants to get back into f1 I think this will be he best option.
I'm not actually committing myself either way, I'm merely informing on a certain route he can go down. This is not my opinion, nor is it my advice.

Personally, I don't wish to see him race again, this has nothing to do with "whatevergate it is thisweekgate", its down to the plain simple fact that he brought nothing to either his team or F1 as a whole.

But to say he should never race in F1 again as he deliberately crashed his car is just insane.

He would not be the first to crash to help his team or his OWN chance of the championship, far from it, nor is this the first time a driver has been questioned over crash tactics, there is quite a prominent red car driver who has now retired who was forever using questionable tactics, be it parking in an area he knows will soon be full of cars or even the suggestion he has taken out major title rivals by colliding straight into them.

I have never seen anyone asking for the ultimate penalty for him due to endangering lives, in fact he is widely regarded as the best ever F1 driver.

I realise this may be seen as a first post that is ultimately aimed at provoking response, far from it, I just wish to point out all the above, this is NOT a new situation in F1.

You make some good points. Some posters seem to think that Piquet needs to receive worse punishment than other cheating F1 drivers because he is not such a good driver as they are  Or they dislike his father  perhaps people with such opinions should apply for a job at the FIA, they love that sort of logic there :hehe:

We will never know whose idea it really was. Symonds says Nelson suggested it, but I'm sure Nelson will strongly deny that. Since I will never know which of the three of them dreamt up the idea, and since it really doesn't matter who first suggested it since all three agreed to it....I will paint all three with the same "you are a scumbag" brush. Yes, cheating is commonplace...but that doesn't mean I have to forgive it when it is blatant, proven and admitted.

There are levels of cheating. This one is worse, in my eyes (your opinion may vary and I won't hold it against you for being wrong) than spygate. This is also worse than liegate. On top of that, Nelson showed a serious lack of respect, loyalty and gratitude to the team that brought him in. Symonds has issued what I feel is a proper apology and takes full credit for what he did....and for that I have some respect for him. Those who cry victim and claim their team forced them to cheat, lie etc....those spineless limp wristed sissies get no sympathy or respect from me.

Renault drops case against Piquets

By Matt Beer Wednesday, September 23rd 2009, 12:47 GMT

Renault has confirmed that it has ended its involvement in criminal proceedings against Nelson Piquet Sr and Jr for alleged blackmail, although former team boss Flavio Briatore is expected to push ahead with the case.

The team and Briatore launched legal action against the Piquets in France before Renault parted company with Briatore and engineering director Pat Symonds and announced that it would not contest the charges of race-fixing in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Renault's lawyer Ali Malek told the World Motor Sport Council in Paris earlier this week that withdrawing the legal action was part of the company's efforts to bring the scandal to a close.

"We are keen to put this whole affair behind us," he said. "Criminal proceedings were brought in France but these have been withdrawn.

"The criminal proceedings were filed on 11 September, for attempted blackmail and false accusations, and it was filed by Renault F1 and Briatore personally against the Piquets.

"I'm told that French counsel wrote to the public prosecutor last Friday seeking to withdraw the criminal complaint on behalf of Renault F1. It's my understanding that the second complainant, Briatore, has not withdrawn the complaint, but it is our intention to draw the line and to do everything we can to put this sad history behind us."

Robert Kubica admits he was shocked that Nelson Piquet Jr was given immunity by the FIA in Renault's race-fixing scandal, equating the Brazilian's actions to confessing to murder.

Prior to Monday's World Motor Sport Council hearing into Renault's actions at last year's Singapore GP, Piquet Jr was granted immunity by the FIA for his testimony.

The immunity meant that even though the Council ruled that Piquet Jr, Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds had conspired to cause a deliberate crash, only the latter two were punished.

"Normally if you go the police and you say you killed someone but you know someone else who killed three people, you will still go to jail," Kubica told reporters in Singapore.

"Maybe you will not have 100 per cent penalty, but you will still have problems. As I said, it's complex."

Piquet Jr's part in the scandal, though, has raised some doubts about whether he will ever race in Formula One again. However, Kubica says he would have no objections to his return, although he cannot fathom why the former Renault driver agreed to the plan in the first place.

"Whatever, I'm not his boss or his father, so he can come in, no problem as a driver," he said. "But you have to be really desperate to do something like this.

"If everything was done on purpose I would jump out of the car on the starting grid. I'd say I'm not racing or I feel bad instead of doing it. I'm surprised. He's an experienced driver, he's done a lot of races and I'm very surprised he made that deal."

As for his own future, the BMW driver has been linked to a move to Renault, although he admits the loss of Briatore and Symonds could yet impact on his decision.

"Of course somehow I was a bit more interesting about the FIA outcome than normally, because Renault is one of the possible options for me for the future and for sure it's good that they are staying," he said.

"Of course losing two key people will change the situation a bit, but I don't know, we'll see.

"Renault is one of the options, of course. There are other teams where there's an opportunity to race in the future so we will see."
