American racing star Danica Patrick has been linked with a move to Formula 1 next season but could another female racer also be considering joining the grid?

There hasn't been a female formula 1 driver since 1992 i think. lol.

I didn't know there'd been one. The head of USF1, Peter Windsor, writes in F1 Racing every month and he ruled it a while back saying she was staying put in NASCAR or something along those lines.

Is she considered to be the best American driver?

According to Wikipedia there have been 5 female drivers in F1, I didn't know either.

EDIT: Only 2 started a race

Well I'd be glad to see it - but she would have to be there on merit. It's frustrating when you see, in any sport, competitors pushed through the ranks based on race or gender.

i think they have decided no, i least i remeber reading Peter Windsor had decided no.

They couldn't afford her apparently.

And shes an average IRL driver, so in F1 shes not goning be exactly a female senna.

I don't think anyone should be in a formula 1 car unless they've got the talent, certainly not just because they're female, they've got a certain name or buckets of cash.

At the moment female racing drivers are a bit sparse, motorsport is still a male dominated sport, both in spectators and participants. Unless more women start taking an interest in racing we're not likely to see many on the F1 grid.

I thought this was an old thread that someone had resurrected!! This rumour surfaces every year - never gonna happen. Not that I don't want a female driver in F1 - but not Danica - she's simply not good enough, and it would be even worse to have a 'token' female driver than it is to have none at all imo.

I can't think of anything worse than a token female driver. I can just imagine the reaction by the less well informed fans when she performs badly :irked:

Dancia is actually currently the best out of the american drivers in indycar. But heh, its indycar. So that does't say much. Dancia just isn't going to F1 anyway.

Women in F1, I have nothing against it, if they're good enough then they deserve a chance as much as the next guy. But we've yet to really see a woman at that kind of level.

Well if you can control oversteer in a Ford KA perhaps you should give Eddie Jordan a ring see if he can sort you a drive though his "contacts" :P

Yeah. I think the Indy Lights is a better way to judge the quality of American single-seater drivers.
