F1 has always had a certain amount of pushing and bending of the rules. E.g. aerodynamic parts that just flex a liiittttlllleeee bit more than they should, etc.

But we keep seeing really serious incidences of cheating recently.

We had McLaren spygate, reverse unpunished Renault spygate, Toyota spygate, lie-gate, and now crash-gate. I don't count Honda's fuel-tank gate as I accept explanations from the time that the whole thing was manufactured by the FIA by changing the effective interpretation of how dry weight is measured.

But several of these instances of cheating only came out more or less by accident. Just how much murky stuff has gone on and is still going on unnoticed by the world at large?

I do not think it is any dirtier than any other sport where people invest millions of pounds. high stakes means high rollers make hard choices and push the limits of what is right.


However I think crash gate is one step beyond.

I think there are far more dirtier sports around, particularly Football.

From what I have heard, F1 is the most expensive "sport," so naturally there's going to be more shady stuff to win the prize. I'd like to think it's a pretty clean sport...

That's the whole reason I started this thread. Who knows what has and is going on.

No. Some of the things we found out, we only found out later, and perhaps more or less by accident.
