I think it is crazy to suggest that Hamilton was ever going to get close enough to make a move on Button. By the time they were reaching the Lesmos he was no where near close enough to make a move into Ascari - his final chance.

Looking at the timing information from the race, Hamilton was not significantly faster than Button in the final sector, therefore Hamilton was never in a million years going to catch and pass Button, unless the Brawn driver made a mistake.

I applaud Hamilton for keeping the pressure up on Button, but he was really clutching at straws. There shouldn't be an argument over whether or not he should have settled for third. He had nothing to lose, and had every right to go for it.

Hamilton lost the race through the pit sequence and, quite clearly, because Brawn had a superior package.

I find it funny that people also seem confident that Lewis would have been able to pull off some blind move on Button. Again he was not close enough, and the remainder of the circuit did not contain any heavy braking areas. The McLaren would be low on its KERS by the end of the lap, so there was no chance of him slip streaming Button, also people forget to take the dirty-air effect into account.

Sure Hamilton might have took a risk and stabbed one up the inside of Button at the Parabolica, but I am of the opinion that he would never have been close enough - given Button made no mistakes.

Therefore Hamilton had every right to push, but only as a means to force Button into a mistake. No other solution would have allowed him into second.

Lewis does not walk on water, he may be a very talented driver, but as much as some fangirls/boys would have you believe he isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread and does make mistakes. His crash, although inflicted through his own bravery, was a clear indication of that.

you have to admit the it was an unusual mistake for him

It is unusual, but not impossible to make. All drivers make mistakes.

not saying it is not, but just not what you expecy from Lewis.
Maybe Flavio told him to do it

All I have to say is that Hamilton's crash towards the end was GLORIOUS.

He performed a great "Piquet"... or maybe it was a failed 3 stops strategy :D

It was a perfect 3rd stop though coming to a complete halt. :hehe:

I don't blame Hamilton for going at Button. There was the possibility of forcing him into a mistake and taking 2nd. Granted it didn't exactly work out that way but I admire his competitiveness nonetheless, he wouldn't be nearly as exciting a driver if he just gave in.

whatever you say about hamilton [hes growing on me haha] he does make the races exciting, im glad he pushed like he did

this is Alex easing himself into McLaren Land.

subtle dude...real subtle

:P

:hehe: He's finally seeing the light.

p.s. Kimi is growing on me :yikes: What's happening to everyone...

pfft knew you were a kimi fan all along.

:hehe::P

I seriously disliked him until I came here, I think I've been brainwashed :spaz:

Or maybe it's because, right now, he's the best-performing driver in F1? :P

Nah, he was world champion in 2007 and I definitely didn't like him then. Plus, he's performing brilliantly in a ferrari and I'm most definitely not a ferrari fan. It's definitely brain washing :hehe:

Did you use this?

Cant say either way really no one will ever know. IT all would have come down to who had more to lose if they tangled, Button for sure! Lewis was a fighter there and pushed too hard but at least he fought! But my god isnt the whole point of this sport to try and finish as far up as possible? For example whats the point of someone in P13 even racing if he cant pass the car in front? Might as well park it! But no they fight on!
God its like people have forgotten the whole spirit of this sport! Which i find very sad!

If you read my post you will see that I actually applaud Hamilton for his efforts and determination. I just don't think that he would have had a chance because of the timegap and the nature of the remainder of the circuit.

Again though, as you said, we will never know.
