Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point.
How about a visor on the car? I'm thinking of a windshield that's high enough to extent to about the top of the driver's helmet.

Yeh but i don't think it would of done that much for Massa.
To Survive the Surtees Crash you would need the helments do have some outer shell that could disapate energy some how.
i don't think its very practical though.

if you look at the Surtees crash it sort of dropped onto his head. not like Massa's where he went into the spring.

FM's accident would have been a non-issue. And who knows maybe the wheel that hit Surtees would have been slightly deflected by a windshield and thus, at least lessened its devastating impact?

indeed, we will never know, but on the other side of the coin how many people might get hit by something deflected of it?
if they do not want a vistor/windshield, how about a slit like a tank. but then I am sure people will complain it would not look very good

Or a head-up display of an on-car video feed instead of any window. Fighter pilots have it...

then you take the driver out of the car and it just becomes a video game
I think things are fine as they are.It came out of nowhere two accidents in a week.Something like this (fingers crossed) probly won't happen again.
If Massa's accident would of happened five years ago he probly wouldn't be alive now. There will be more advances over time and things will improve even further for driver safety.

If a flying wheel hits a driver they are going to be killed, no matter wht really.
