Jabberwocky wrote:I meant when Cosworth supplied the majority of the F1 field it is because the DFV was the best engine to have.Yes, but we're seeing the other side as well where teams are flocking to the best engine. We were talking about Mercedes becoming the only or majority engine on the grid and it would be for the right reason if it happened, not the pushing.
Not like the new teams now who seem to have been pushed towards them.

So what we could see now is that because MB are limited to supply 3 teams if they come up with something that blows everyone else out of the water then we would have a 2 tier championship
McLaren & Brawn & Force India
followed by championship best of the rest.

I'm sure, Ferrari, e.g., would view it as a Herculean task to fight that sea of Merc engines and then winning the title(s) would be that much sweeter.
When the end of year accounts come around and an Engine Builders, company CEO looks at how they did.
Merc 500pts
Ferrari 100pts
Renault 50pts
Toyota 10pts
If you where CEO of Toyota and you had no interest in F1 and the only reason you paid them millions of pounds to make your brand look good. how happy wold you be? Would you give them more money to make them better or decide that spending the money another type of branding is better?
