I never liked the T-Car system, especially during the race; how many times did we see a driver binning their car in the first corner, the race being red flagged and the driver running back to the pits for the T-Car to take his place on the restarted grid. I believe the banning of the T-Car was a good idea in the fairness of racing!

I miss the running back to the pits bit though :P

"It's the Formula 1 marathon from Monaco, and in the lead is Pedro Diniz!":rofl::rofl:

I remember the epic run back to the pits at Monaco. Who where those drivers that kept their helmets on during the entire run in the hot sun?

I was funny sometimes admittedly when both drivers in a team were taken out in a first corner incident (Spa '98 springs to mind) and both run back to the pits to find the car is set up for the other driver so all that running effort was wasted; did F1 ever have two T-Cars?

I'm hearing talk about the top teams asking for the right to run 3 cars next year, how good would that be? Give a couple of the rubbish teams the chop and let the top 4 constructors run 3 cars.

Schumacher, Alonso & Massa? Hamilton, Rosberg & Kovalainen?

Teams set to discuss third car concept

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78095

By Jonathan Noble Saturday, August 29th 2009, 08:54 GMT

Teams are set to formally discuss the idea of introducing third cars to Formula 1 next year at a FOTA meeting in Monza, with Ferrari keen to bring the concept to life so it can run Michael Schumacher.

FOTA members are due to get together at the Italian Grand Prix to begin discussing plans to improve F1, and one of the ideas that will be brought up for evaluation is the chance to run a third car in selected races.

Ferrari has been the driving force behind the idea, with its president Luca di Montezemolo and team principal Stefano Domenicali both keen on the rule change that could allow Schumacher to make an F1 comeback in 2010.

"It is correct to say that, if everything is fine, why not see him [Schumacher] in one of our cars?" Domenicali said in an interview with The Times on Saturday.

"It is true that we are pushing [for three cars]. We feel that it is for the benefit of F1 and it is better to make sure that the biggest teams have three cars because that's what people want. With all respect to the smaller teams, the value of F1 is to have good drivers, great personalities in good cars and with a great brand."

A move to introduce third cars for 2010 would need the unanimous support from current teams although a longer term introduction for 2011 or after would only need a majority.

McLaren has confirmed that it would support the idea of third cars, if they were introduced in the right way.

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: "My view on third cars is that we are not against it, however the priority should be that we make sure F1 has a good show and is a good spectacle. We want to try and ensure that all the teams are healthy.

"If you do all those things then you probably don't need a third car. We need to be sensitive to the fact that if there were three Brawns, Red Bulls and McLarens here, then it doesn't make it easier for the small teams. So we need to be willing and prepared to do third cars, but you should only do that if you have fewer teams present than we currently have.

"We should concentrate on working with the basics. It's an interesting concept and it would be nice to put a young rookie driver in, there are interesting angles. If we can do that then it would be nice to do, but if it's about getting the best three drivers in the best three cars then I am not sure it adds to the spectacle."

However, not all teams are so supportive of the idea of allowing teams to run third cars.

Frank Williams told AUTOSPORT: "Three cars? I would block it. It is not necessary today.

"One of the [new] teams that dropped out three or four months ago, they said that if we wanted a third car then they would be delighted to run one - at least it pays for the engineering and prototyping.

"I am sure it is the case for other people too and if you were Ferrari you could get 1-2-3 in every race, with more testing. It is obvious."

i like it. I'd rather see more top cars run by the top teams than Campos, Manor etc. I've never cared at all about the WCC, it was only set up as a way of marketing the companies involved and to promote investment in F1. F1 was set up as a driver's championship and if the big teams ran more cars, that would mean more top drivers could get into race-winning cars. That way, we could avoid talents like Alonso and Rosberg having to waste their time in the midfield

It is now, but it has been emphasised by the suits because that's how they make their money. It's vital for the big manufacturers, the sponsors and for Bernie to make everyone feel that the WCC is as important as possible because that's where the money is made in F1. The WCC is just the business side of things and it frustrates me that it is allowed to get in the way of the core of F1. That is the testing of the most supreme driving talents in the world.

F1 is not just about the best drivers it's also about the best engineering and building the best car thats why the WCC exists.

People watch F1 for different reasons, my main interest is the drivers. If all the best drivers have good cars it makes for better watching.

Yes but a fundamental part of F1 is the WCC that's why i think most fans support teams rather than drivers.

The thing is tho if you have Alonso, Schui and Massa in the best car your gonna get 1.2.3 finishes.

Which is gonna be horrible for other teams.

Also what if say Alonso gets in a prime spot for the WDC vs Say Lewis. Ferrari can lockout the front 3 spots and Schui and Massa can play defender for Alonso meaning Lewis would have a proper mission to get past all 3.

Its bad enough with one driver playing rear gunner but 2...lol

i mean lets say Lewis gets past massa to take 3rd and starts closing i on Schui in 2nd.

Schui could just slow him down and Massa could just re-pass
