Mercedes engine supply it is amazing what 100 Millions will buy you.

How many Merc engines have failed this year?

Last engine failure was Japan 08 and i can't remember the time before that.

I think the last time a McLaren retired from a race because of engine failure before that was the 2006 Italian Grand Prix, and before that again was the 2006 Spanish Grand Prix. There were two race-ending engine failures in 2005 as well. But, still, better than the five in 2004. Thankfully, all of the political crap going on inside both McLaren and Mercedes is over. It was incredibly frustrating being a McLaren supporter only to watch its cars breakdown every Grand Prix, often whilst in point-scoring, podium and winning positions! :irked:

I don't remember exactly why Heikki retired last year in Japan, but Wikipedia lists the reason as Engine. Was that one a failure or just a precautionary move?

It was a failure, I think there was bits of metal flying out around the exhaust, so he pulled off.
Also I think he was in a good position to win if I remember.
