just gonna add my 2 cents.


i've said all long last year was a fluke for bmw, they were there to pick up the points dropped by ferrari and maclaren, their car was never a contender. So this years performance doesn't surprise me one bit. I wont be sad to see them go, and hopefully they makeway for a more exciting team

So if you are saying last year was a fluke and dominated by only Ferrari and McLaren and points dropped by them should be picked up easily by any other team then why is BMW 35 points ahead of 4th place Renault, 79points ahead of 5th place Toyota? If its a fluke then 3rd, 4th, 5th, should be close. If it was a fluke for BMW last year, then using your theory, McLaren and Ferrari is a fluke too considering McLaren are 86pts behind Brawn and Ferrari are 74pts out of 1st place.

Williams has and is now sticking it out in a way longer drought than BMW is experiencing. So has Ferrari and McLaren. I think there are 2 factors that may explain how BMW can't do that:

1: Poor economy. Just bad luck as far as timing goes.
2: They are a real carmaker with real life business needs and must always consider the bottom line. This goes in line with reason #1. Honda did it last year too, Ford didit before that, and lots of others did it in the past, and historically they do come back in some form eventually. Ferrari doesn't count because they simply sell cars to fund their F1 involvement.

But the vast majority of FOTA members are Manufacturers, so I suppose the same rule applies.

I'd like to think they'd stay in F1 until at least 2012, because of the new Concorde Agreement. However as the manufacturers are dictated by the car market and their boardrooms, that may not be possible.

The economy should be on an up, soon, so they should hopefully stay with us.
