Schumi's getting to be an old man now (40). I'm betting we'll see him tucked up under his blanket with a pipe long into Q2 because he's forgotten that the way qualifying works has changed, followed by much mutterings about what went on "back in the good old days"...

Well, it's as good a prediction as any, and unlike most it at least makes reference to one salient fact.

his neck should be a worry
The Italian team said it will enter Schumacher as Massa’s replacement following a training programme for the German, who earlier this year hurt his neck in a motorcycle testing crash.

"I really can't tell you if his neck would be fine to drive an F1 race - and remember he is a 40-year-old man, too," Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm warned.

I guess the advantage he has here is that it's not a fast circuit. Spa, however, will be a different story...

Yes, but I presume, he will have prepared himself much better by the race in Spa. Actually, he will have one race in his pocket. So, it's more possible that he will struggle in Valencia then in Spa.

F1 is no Tour de France but surely he can't be s*** now can he.I mean hes still racing in some capacity. He just tested Ferrari's car last year or so and was sort of competitive. He might not win but he won't be shitty either. It will be shitty if Alguersuari beats him. :hehe:
And another thing, just hear Eddie Jordon say this is going to bring about 15% increase in attendance and tv viewer ship.especially at tracks like Spa.I  Can't wait.Man why a 4 week break. :(

And age wasn't a problem for Mansell when he made his comeback in 1994, he was still on the pace, but he had put on some weight from his 2 years in Indy Cars.

He was 41 when he won his last race at Adelaide, and was still 41 when he did his final race at Catalunya-wn in 1995.

Jacques Laffite was 42 and still going strongly in 1986 before the big smash at the first corner at Brands Hatch where he broke his legs.
