I aswell saw the full replay and I caught the anguish from the tire guy, look closely and you will see it. He definitely knew what had happened imho. Anyway

Did they have a better replay on Speed?

WOW WOW WOW to see Alonso put that pig of a car on pole and then lead was truelly a shock ie the car but not the driver  .

It wasnt the car nor the driver that put the car on pole, it was the weight of the thing.

I firmly believe it's a knee jerk reaction after Surtees death and the injury to Massa. Over the years how many times have we seen wheels fly off because of human error in pit stops and no punishment was enforced by the FIA. Safety in F1 is higher than any motorsport on the planet, Massa's injury was a freak accident!

It only takes one 'freak' incident to remind us that in motorsport's anything that can happen will eventually happen, have you ever heard of Ayrton Senna? Also so what if it is a 'knee jerk' reaction by the FIA? The truth is that it could have been avoided and Alonso may have finished in the point's, BUT!!!!

I think that they could have used another form of punishment really , make em start from the pits or somin like that but not being allowed to ebter the race is crazy.

So in your opinion the VERY VERY experienced 'wheel man' should not be held accountable after risking not only other's lives but that of his driver?

you cant lay blame on him like that. Its a team game, the pit wall and Fernando could have used common sense and parked the car instead of trying to make it back to the pits.

Whoever came up with that penalty is a dumb*ss. So you're gonna suspend the star attraction's team in his home GP??? :bs: I truly don't understand FIA's train of thought sometimes. Why didn''t they just levy Renault with some insane fine like they did McLaren in 2007 rather than take revenue out of their own pockets by pissing off the Spanish fans. :nono: How moronic is that???

That was what I said earlier and someone took the first two sentences and ran with it. If you quote me, use the whole quote please. :drink: Anyway, allow me to reiterate that it makes no sense to not allow Renault to race at Fernando Alonso's home race which will lose them even more money. I thought this was a business people!!! Unless it's business of the shady variety and the suspension was just a ploy to get Alonso in a Ferrari. :director: I just thought that if you can fine McLaren $100,000,000.00 for stealing blueprints surely you could justify that amount or more in the name of safety and i'll bet that will get everyone's attention to take heed, ya know.

Reading more on this, the precise reason why Renault are being banned is because they 'knowingly' released the car when it should not have been released, ie was not safe to do so... why are they getting a ban for that where others haven't in the past (Massa in Singapore is one example)? :banghead: That just adds to the whole knee-jerk reaction mentality that many have already alluded to.

If the wheel nut is not seated properly the brake fairing is a victim of rotational and aerodynamic forces

Duh. But if you look at the way the whole mechanism actually works, then you'll see how a loose fairing that is spinning around can actually cause the nut to become loose as well! Every report i have read is quite vague and only states that the 'wheel was not fixed on properly', which is quite unhelpful really, and is why i'm here offering a different idea to the one that it was simply the wheel nut being loose that caused the incident. Okay? I don't see why we're having this argument... so i'm leaving it here.

Having said that, the cause of the wheel coming off is somewhat irrelevant in light of the reasoning behind the decision to ban Renault.

You really think Piquet would've gotten pole with the same weight and car as Alonso in Q3?

I'm not so sure about that...

Maybe not piquet but Kimmi, Massa, Lewis, Kubica, Webber, Vettel, Nicco, Trulli, Glock, Suthil, Kovalinen...probably missed a few but you get my drift :D

EDIT  Button, Rubens

Just more and more reasons why Piquet should've been dumped by now... :hehe:

From autosport.com:

FIA sets date for Renault appeal hearing

By Edd Straw Thursday, July 30th 2009, 15:41 GMT

The FIA has announced that the International Court of Appeal will hear Renault's appeal against its suspension from the European Grand Prix on August 17.

The hearing will start at 10am in Paris, with the verdict due to be released on the afternoon of August 18.

Renault was punished after race stewards ruled that Fernando Alonso was knowing released from his pitstop without the wheel-nut retaining device securely in place and that Renault failed to take any action to stop the car leaving the pitlane.

They also found that Renault did not inform Alonso of the problem or ask him to stop, leading to his front right wheel falling off exiting Turn 9.

The stewards concluded that Renault had violated Article 3.2 of F1's Sporting Regulations, which insists that "competitors must ensure that their cars comply with the conditions of eligibility and safety throughout practice and the race."

Renault was also found to be in violation of Article 23.1, which calls for cars to be released from a pitstop only "when it is safe."

Should Renault's appeal be upheld, it will be allowed to participate in the European Grand Prix on August 23.

I did want Alonso there for the fact of he is a contender....but he did run a risky car

Surtees died through that sort of act.

No he didn't, the tire that hit Surtees was from a car that had recently gone off the track and violently slammed into a wall ripping off the left rear tire along with the wing and some of the rear suspension, they didn't drive around the track with a loose wheel after a pit stop. What happened to Surtees was the result of a crash, not the result of a careless pit stop, the two instances should not be compared.

I think a fine would have made a lot more sense, banning the team is overkill... and why the whole team, why not just Alonso's car? The other car has a totally separate pit crew, why are they being punished?
