"Whoever came up with that penalty is a dumb*ss. So you're gonna suspend the star attraction's team in his home GP???"

Exactly....a team that knowingly sends out a car with a loose wheel just after Surtees and Massa rightly deserve the penalty.

i just cant believe a team would send out a car with a loose wheel! its obvious whats gonna happen,

id say yeah the computer said it werent on, but they didnt realise, and he was gone

i bet the grandstands are empty..........

Even if the team was there the stands would be empty last years race was probably the most boring F1 race I've ever seen!

thats why im not to fussed with the ban!

The ban is extreme to say the least; either a fine or docking of points would be more appropriate or even a suspended sentence. But from what I understand Renault knew as soon as Alonso took off that the wheel nut wasn't tightened fully and they didn't even attempt to relay that information to the driver so Alonso could drive slower to avoid the wheel flying off at high speed. Renault have been made an example of but I don't believe it was a personal attack on Renault or Briatore!

I think it was a fair punishment due to the extreme nature of what could have happened. The wheel guy could have motioned to hold the car as he knew the wheel nut was not seated properly but still gave his 'ok' signal. I mean how many hundred's of time's do the team's practice pitstop's meaning that wheel guy knowingly allowed Alonso back into the race, his lapse in judgement came back to haunt him in a huge way dont you think?

Just my opinion,

A thought occurs. Brundle made a good point (as usual!) in the commentary about the wheel fairing 'unwinding' the nut as it span around. Thinking back, it seemed like that is the part that the mechanic was trying to position correctly as Alonso left his pit space, is it not entirely possible that the team could have reasonably not expected the fairing to unwind the nut as it did? Assuming that is what happened of course...

Damn, that vid doesn't show the guy on the front right at the end of the stop, which i could swear was shown in a replay later on. :scratchchin:

This debate/thread could reach 500 pages but why? The simple fact is that the wheel nut was NOT properly seated, it is simple physic's no matter how many excuse's are made.

The idea i was trying to explain was that the wheel nut could have been on properly but the fairing wasn't, which could have had a knock on effect. It's just a theory anyway.

i know its frustrating as there doesnt seem to be any other footage. but the team doesnt appear worried by the front right guy making a mistake so perhaps the wheel gun malfunctioned instead of human error?

If the wheel nut is not seated properly the brake fairing is a victim of rotational and aerodynamic forces  .

I aswell saw the full replay and I caught the anguish from the tire guy, look closely and you will see it. He definitely knew what had happened imho. Anyway WOW WOW WOW to see Alonso put that pig of a car on pole and then lead was truelly a shock ie the car but not the driver  .

I firmly believe it's a knee jerk reaction after Surtees death and the injury to Massa. Over the years how many times have we seen wheels fly off because of human error in pit stops and no punishment was enforced by the FIA. Safety in F1 is higher than any motorsport on the planet, Massa's injury was a freak accident!

Did they have a better replay on Speed?

It wasnt the car nor the driver that put the car on pole, it was the weight of the thing.
