Why isnt Stepney(and therefore Ferrari) on trial? You seem unable to answer this question.

Ferrari thought it would be better to stalk him and send death threats to he and his family.

Yes he must have some pretty good dirt on Ferrari!

Strange how the FIA(Ha!) dont consider stealing information and giving it to someone in another team as spying.

What irks me a lot about this situation is how the breakdown in relations between Stepney and the Ferrari bigwigs doesn't get a mention. Stepney was an extremely close ally of Brawn and once Brawn left the team Ferrari started to mess Stepney about and change his job description. He ruffled the feathers of a few people and, in true Italian fashion, they decided to ruin his career. As I've said countless times before, regardless of whether the spy scandal is true, false, or somewhere in between, there are a lot of personal agendas and vendettas going on amongst this.

It's about benefitting and damaging the other. With Stepney taking info to McLaren, which obviously is an illegal act in itself, he didn't do harm to Ferrari per se yet or to any other team. What DID do the damage was the handling at McLaren's end by benefitting from the info and further circulating the data instead of immediately reporting it to the authorities. You could say that Stepney is the thief, McLaren is the fence and beneficiary, and Ferrari fell victim to one of its sons' misdeeds. Stepney's acts don't present cause for Ferrari to be charged because they did not harm any other team while the acts of McLaren employees potentially harmed a third party, i.e., Ferrari.

Ferrari were in breach of the same sporting code 151a that McLaren got in trouble for in the first hearing. they didnt make sure Stepney obeyed the rules same way as McLaren didnt make sure Coughlan did.

dd the face of F1 has been harmed here, not just a mere team! and a Ferrari employee instigated the whole affair!

Thats how I understood it. The initial perpetrator of the incident came from ferrari, without that there would be no case. McLaren did not go spying, one of their employees was given information.

I can see your point DD but its a weak arguement.

There is no proof the material was passed around and after a thorough examination of the cars. no sign of Ferrari stuff being used(Why would they want it?They want to win in a McLaren not a Ferrari) But this is a secodary point and only arises out of the initial transgression of the rules by a Ferrari guy.

I'm a bit worried about it. If this goes Ferrari's way, then F1 will struggle to recover. It's been an age since the last title fight that was seriously between more than two men, and now all of that excitement and drama could be blown away because of a few personal vendettas or whatever. :(

It would be a MASSIVE shame.

Whichever way it goes, F1 will be damaged. If it goes Ferrari's way and McLaren are booted out for 1 or 2 years, it sucks for F1. If McLaren don't get booted out or punished, it still sucks because they've already been found 'guilty' and not punished. And if they are found not-guilty of any wrongdoing, there will still be those who say it's a conspiracy.

Either way, there is a huge split and whichever way the decision goes, it's hurt the sport. I'm all for a bit of drama (it's definitely spiced things up and made this season more exciting) but I personally feel it's gone too far this season.

Well, who's to say it's going to end today? Although unlikely, if McLaren are not punished, Ferrari say they will go to the courts, in which case it will drag on and on.

Yeh I agree but I was only focusing on Ferrari. After all what is the difference between Ferrari and FIA?
or whats the difference between an 07 McLaren and an 07 Ferrari? :D

Put them all in Ford Kas straight off the forecourt and let them race in those! They're the latest boy-racer toys aren't they.
