if going fast around the track isnt your kind of driving experience then yeah the F1 isnt for you. Maybe go for a Camry! :hehe:

Outright speed isn't so important to me; I enjoy G-Forces so something small and light usually works for me, I quite like the Lotus Elise or Exige, it may only do 150mph but it goes through corners better than many more expensive sports cars. Besides if driving on public roads what good is 240mph when you are restricted to 70mph?

And the F1 is such a tank of a car not capable of pushing its driver to the limit with alot of +G's ?? :hehe:

but there you have contradicted yourself you say you enjoy G Forces yet claim where can you drive a sports car more than 100kmh...

How did I contradict myself? You don't need to be driving at 100mph to generate G-Forces; you experience G-Forces when a bus goes around a corner at 15mph. I never said that the F1 couldn't generate G-Forces; again I have been misquoted! G-Forces is not like downforce where a car needs to be travelling at 100mph for the aero affect to take effect!

I didn't claim there was nowhere to drive at more than 70mph; I was referring to the national speed limit of the UK; of course you can go faster on a track or on a private road but the majority of the time while driving on public roads you are limited to 70mph unless you happening to be travelling on the Autobahn. A car like the Lotus Elise gives you many of the thrills of a McLaren F1 without needing a top speed of 240mph. I'm not a fan of the McLaren F1; obviously you guys are which is fine. Let's call this to an end before the thread gets locked down!

Mate you are contradicting yourself, you're talking about gforces that thrill aren't you? Unless a bus ride thrills you? So for an exige to thrill you'd need to drive it illegally right?

And you talk like the F1 is only a straight line machine? Why?

prob drives a diesel.

I drive a petrol (gas) 2002 Ford Focus, two door sports cars are not so practical for family life; unless you want to toast the children on top of the engine!

You know what it sounds like your bitter about the fact you can't have a sport car, don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with a ford focus at all i have one good handeling and reasonably quick.

But if somone said "here's a Mclaren F1"

I wouldn't say "nah mate i'm alright, i mean whats the point when i can only go 70mph, i'll stick with my focus, i don't want to scare the kids"

Your basicly listing cars that are newer than the F1 also.

Fact of the matter is the F1 is an amazing car in its day and still pretty amazing now if you can't accept that then just be silent because your wrong.

Yes I like G-Forces; and as I said; G-Forces are at play in many things we do in life; and the Elise/Exige can produce some quite severe G-Forces when cornering on tight and twisty country roads at 70mph. My point is that I don't need to be doing 240mph to achieve G-Forces and you couldn't physically do 240mph on roads that I am used to! And I never actually said that the McLaren F1 was a straight line machine only but to achieve it's top speed it requires a long straight or at minimum a huge oval track. I have nothing against the F1; but given the choice of cars around at the time of the F1 I prefer a different car to you and Longbow like the F40 or XJ220, but I wouldn't buy one!

You know what it sounds like your bitter about the fact you can't have a sport car.

I could easily buy a sports car as well as my Focus but I choose not to as it doesn't suit my lifestyle at this time, maybe when the kids grow up I'll get myself a small sports car like the Elise/Exige or maybe I'll get myself an Ariel Atom.

But if somone said "here's a Mclaren F1"

I would take it and sell it on and buy myself a GTR, Elise or some other small sports car; I've never been much of a fan of supercars or hypercars.

Your basicly listing cars that are newer than the F1 also.

Not really, the Lotus Elise has been around for 15 years; and the Ferrari F40 came along five years before the McLaren F1.

Fact of the matter is the F1 is an amazing car in its day and still pretty amazing now if you can't accept that then just be silent because your wrong.

As I said before; what is good/amazing comes down to personal opinion, if you do a lot of track days and stuff like that, enjoy your F1; but for day to day use it's not very practical for the daily commute is it? I want a car that I can use every day and enjoy throwing it around on rural roads on weekends, I personally don't believe the F1 is suitable for every day use. Right now a Focus works for me, I'm not bothered about having a sports car at this time.

I understand that you both like the McLaren F1 and that's great; does it really matter that I have a differing opinion? If someone does give me a McLaren F1 on the off chance; I'll give you both first and second refusal on buying it, deal?

Oh and a message to the moderators; maybe splitting this thread in two (can you still do that on phpBB?, it's been a while since I was a moderator on a phpBB forum) separating the original thread from the last two pages of "Why the McLaren f1 is so great"?!?!

Right so stop moaning about the F1 then you'll buy an Elise or Exige fine.

But the exsige is a sports car the Mclaren F1 is a Hyper Car

There in Massively different leagues

I would take it and sell it on and buy myself a GTR, Elise or some other small sports car; I've never been much of a fan of supercars or hypercars.

Thats great mate but you missed the point.

Not really, the Lotus Elise has been around for 15 years; and the Ferrari F40 came along five years before the McLaren F1.

But you said you don't like hyper or super cars and thats what an F40 is?

And you'd also listed the GTR loads and finally i can't really see you going specficly for a '96 elise because its completely different model whears the Mclaren F1 is the SAME ONE.

ARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHH!!! :banghead::banghead:

Your SO ANNOYING

"its not very pratical" - NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT BUYING AN F1

IF you were admiring something a car for example lets say a exige and then someone came up and said to you.

"That cars rubbish, i don't like it, its not very pratical i much perfer my diseal volvo because its safer and has room for the kids. besides Lotus's are over rated anyway there just plastic and tacky"

What would you think? because thats basicly what you've done. You've come on a thread where everyones going "such a shame..." "mint car"... and gone

"not very practical is it and the GTR is better"

I understand that you both like the McLaren F1 and that's great; does it really matter that I have a differing opinion? If someone does give me a McLaren F1 on the off chance; I'll give you both first and second refusal on buying it, deal?

YOU OPINION IS s***

AND YOUR WRONG

Don't be so bloody childish.

Last warning people, we get all your points of view and that you have a difference of opinion - both arguments sure have been laboured enough - just drop it and move on FFS! :banghead:

OK Scotty, this is my final post in this thread, Longbow, if you want the final word, feel free... it's pointless!

Unless I say that the McLaren F1 is the best car ever made and nothing will ever touch it you will argue with me.

And originally I came into this thread and stated "I doubt that the owner will get the full value of his $3m insurance policy" and that "I didn't think the F1 was that a great a car" - I never said it was a bad car; I used reviews that I have read about the car as my basis... obviously I have never driven one and I don't have any interest in driving one!

And if someone came up to me and said a car I liked was rubbish; I would just accept it saying "that's your opinion and you're entitled to it" and move on with my life. At the end of the day it's a car; it's not very important in the grand scale of things is it?
