Currently the best game would be rFactor, available at rFactor.net. F1 Challenge 99-02 (F1C) is a good choice too. And of any pc racing game, F1C has the broadest range of racing series available as addons (see the forums at racesimcentral.org). The rFactor game will eventually catch up to F1C in terms of the variety of racing series available.

I agree with that because on top of creating their own rfactor mods they are converting (legally) the f1c mods to rfactor plus if someone hits the barrier the safety car comes out- something that has never happened on most games like playstations f1 games not too sure about f1c as i dont have that game.

First post. Hi everybody. Here goes........

Hmmm. Being a creature of habit and....errr....maybe a bit simple, I have to confess that Formula 1 on my old Playstation 1 meets my requirements. But I'd be interested in testing some new games on the PC if there are some decent free trials out there, but only if they are easy to use. I don't like PC games that take weeks to learn.

Grand Prix 4 is the best F1 game by quite some margin. Its mods are ok but the old directX 8 graphics are looking rough these days.

The amount of set up changes you can make is what impresses me. The fact that Geoff Crammond & his dev team actualy used GPS data for modelling the tracks just shows the attention to detail.

As the box says "Nothing Gets Closer".

GP4 is by far the best modern F1 game, the only one i actually enjoy in fact. It's the buggiest piece of software in the known universe though :banghead:

Ya it is the only F1 game i have enjoyed time and time again. GP3 & the 2000 expansion were quite good fun aswell.

Im very excited about Codemasters making the new F1 game. They really know how to make racing games. The toca race driver & colin mcrae series have for the most part always been of the highest standard in graphics & gameplay mechanics.

I disagree on codemasters games, they've always been pretty poor sims imo. For me there's GTL, GPL and GP4 and all otyher games are arcaders. The codemasters game is based on the physics engine from GRiD which is frankly awful. I personally guarantee the codemasters game will be poor

Wow im shocked!

Well all I can say is that I hope you are pleasantly surprised when it comes out. If anything else it will be better than what Sony have been making over the past few years.

Yup I'm hard to please when it comes to racing sims :D I hated the Sony ones and the EA ones. i pretty much want it to be a pure sim. Even if that means taking 3 years to learn how to drive it, i don't mind. GPL came out in 1997 and i got it in 1998. It took me until 2004 before i got on the pace! But i love it with all my heart!

You will be disappointed. F1 2009 and F1 2010 will both not be pure sims. They're shooting for an approachable accurate approximation.

Yup that's what I read. I'd not mind so much but GP4 has stopped working on my PC because of some un-findable and un-uninstallable Windows updates :banghead: Nothing else is good enough! I miss the high downforce, high speed thrills :(

 I am kinda the same, not as extreme which is why I like the in-between style of arcade/sim mode codemasters do.

GTR & GTR2 broke my heart. It took me a long time to get the right car setups so I could actually race on the highest skill level.

What was the worst F1 game you played?
