 oops the racing seats, steering wheel and roll cage got me fooled there :)

But I didnt mean sreet tuner style glass fibre body kits stuff...... (I actually though you were fixing it up for the track)
For the streets, Im sure with a black paint and a matte black front spoiler, discrete side skirts and a small rear spoiler would make it look really nice and not too flashy.

As for the turbo, its probably more useful to upgrade some engine parts as you mention, rather than a powerhouse with less than appropriate drivetrain... but without a turbo then definitely get a free flow air filter, its a cheap several HP gain, and not really too loud. Only a nice little growl at high throttle.

well it's both track (not racing), and road use, no body kit's, skirt's spoiler, all add's un-wanted weight, only real road use is work and back, about 10-20 min drive, so not fussed about comfort, got the misus car to use when i need to go anywhere, like shopping etc :hehe:

on the air filter side, will be using a panel filter(probably K&N or pipercross) in original airbox with a good air feed, open cone filter's are no good on these engine's - you lose power due to amount of heat in the tiny engine bay

I have done a few track days, and to be honest I have more fun in a sheddy car than a nice one. I had an old Corolla GT that cost me next to nothing, it was great, if it went in to the gravel then so be it. However when I tracked my Evo, I was not pushing anyware as hard as I did not want the haslte of repray etc.... plus the brakes on the GT where slightly less to replace than the evo lol

Nice project Ste L. Just lighten that baby up as much as possible ie strip the interior of everything unnecessary including the sound deadening material. Your suspension upgrades along with tire choice will make that car handle superbly and an open intake and exhuast will sound awesome.

Please keep us updated,
tex

Then the predictable load of Caterhams and Lotuses!

Nothing wrong with Lotuses ;):hehe:

Good timing this thread...I've just got back from the 'Ring :D Was absolutely awesome - fantastic weather and some beautiful machinery. Really great to see a Lambo and an Audi R8 on track :)

Also took in the VLN race whilst I was there - there was an absolutely bonkers Lexus that I absolutely adored (mainly because it was the loudest thing on track by miles). I didn't get any decent shots of it however there are loads here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=lexus%2 ... searched=1

I've also tracked my car at Anglesey and am probably going to head to Spa either later this year or early next year.

I still want to do some actual racing again soon, preferably next year. What I might do is buy a car to race with and then do the odd track day with it just as a nice run release. Are you allowed to use proper racing cars on track days? I'm thinking of doing something along the lines of the Classic Touring Car series.

Yeah, obviously you'd have deal with a relatively high amount of traffic though.

Didn't time it. I never time when we go to the 'Ring because I think it's asking for trouble. We were chatting to one of the guys at our hotel on the first night we got there - he had a Porsche GT3 with carbon fibre bits added. Saw him the next night and he'd binned it. He's not sure his insurers will pay out either :(

TBH I mainly go for the car-parks anyway

And no, I have the Exige not the Elise :)
