Sorry i can't hear you over the sound of Jenson crying when Lewis retains the WDC.

Sorry, I can't pay attention to what you're saying, you've turned the most distracting shade of green

But in Australia I will admit Lewis was pretty lucky with how retirements went and also the track is more suited to cars with very good mechanical grip which the McLaren does pretty well in as can be seen in the sector times of certain tracks, but in Bahrain there was only 1 retirement and that did not effect Lewis anyway it was a pretty standard race with Lewis getting that place partly by his skill but also his improved pace of his car. At the start of the season the McLaren was over 2 seconds off the pace now it's not more than half a second off the pace I think that shows substantial improvement.

I think it's pretty obvious I was being facetious.

Also, McLaren was not that far off the pace at the start of the season, it was decidedly middle of the road at the start of the season:
Qualifying 2 (Australia)
R Barrichello: 1:24.783
H Kovalainen: 1:25.726

Difference 0.943 Seconds.

You are thinking of Pre-Season.

Well a few people reckon the car was around 2 and half seconds of the pace at Barcelona testing it's hard to compare with Melbourne because the circuit suited the cars good mechanical grip if the first race had been Spain then I think the car would of been 2 seconds off the pace.

The problem with all the midfield cars is that you can only polish a turd so much.

Yep that is funny but how did this turn into another thread about McLaren  ?

Because they are theorising the pecking order!

 Theories are like ass-umptions and we know what those do? :hehe:

That's great that the Ferrari will be more competitive, but I still believe they have some personal issues. The decisions they've been making as far as strategy goes doesn't seem to be helping them get points. IMHO it started last year when they continued to use the malfunctioning Pit light system witch eventually cost Massa a race (and Title) and has continued this year with bad race / qualifying strategy at almost every race. They were a little slow on coming up with a rear diffuser, because they seemed to be relying on them being banned, and now they are way behind on the development of their car. Maybe these new updates will help with overall speed, but I think that's only half of the problem. Before Ferrari created the dream team of Brawn /Schumacher they were in a 15 year slump of not winning anything and I'm afraid they may be entering into another bad time if they can't straighten their management team out.

It seems to me that Ferrari has descended into the madness that characterised the team through most of its history except during the Schumacher years. Ferrari have thrown away more titles than any other team in F1 history

I don't think it's fair to just call it the "Schumacher years" I think /Brawn needs to be added as I think he's a large reason Ferrari was so good through those years.

Yup and Jean Todt and I suppose to an extent Rory Byrne although producing quick cars has never really been Ferrari's problem. Schumacher was largely responsible for gathering the right personnel though.

We'll see how it goes. But I don't think any of the previous top three teams will be bolting on a few new bits, and immediately moving up right to the front. It'll take longer than that.

 Even if the upgrades do manage to shave a couple of tenths, Ferrari still have to work around their strategies and smooth their reliability out before being even dreaming of being consistent front runners. But its far from the gloom the catastrophists state about...

BMW will also bring several new parts, and probably Renault as well. So even if current toppers do not bring too much new stuff, there's at least 4 teams to edge out. Mclaren has been steadily improving (and working really good strategies) and definitely Brawn, Red Bull and Toyota are still solid.
