- 20 Oct 09, 19:22#164499I remember my Dad being shocked when watching the news of Jimmy Clark's death at Hockenheim in 1968 when I was 5, and catching various races he was watching on TV - Jack Brabham going off at the last corner at Monaco in 1970, Jo Siffert being killed at Brands in 1971, and Jackie Stewart winning Monaco in 1973.
I myself got hooked in 1975 and started following avidly in South Africa where Jody Scheckter won in a Tyrrell. The next race that was to be televised was the Race of Champions which was won majestically by Tom Price in the fabulous UOP Shadow DN5. I made it to Silverstone to see the GP there and saw many of the cars spin off (Regazzoni in a Ferrari in front of me - excellent, I have never liked them). I went to every GP from then on until 1994, since when I have not been back. Missed Johnny Herbert winning in 1995 which is my only regret. However, with Lotus 'back' next year, I am sorely tempted to return.
