McLaren's chance of retaining Lewis Hamilton could rest on the outcome of their April 29th WMSC hearing as Merc boss Norbert Haug says the Brit was and is still considering quitting.
Reports emerged in Malaysia on Sunday, a day after Hamilton apologised to his team and his fans for 'deliberately misleading' the Australian race stewards, that the 24-year-old could walk away from McLaren - and even Formula One.
Team boss Martin Whitmarsh denied these claims but couldn't stop the rumours with the British media claiming earlier this week that Hamilton's father and manager Anthony was considering advising his son to leave the team for one that is 'less prone to shooting themselves in the foot.'
And now, in the wake of the FIA's decision to haul McLaren before the World Motor Sport Council to answer charged adhering to that Australian GP stewards hearing, someone at McLaren has finally admitted that 'yes, Hamilton could leave.'

"Lewis had a very hard time from Thursday until Sunday in Malaysia - and this demonstrates that he is an honest person," Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug told the Bild.

"The topic (of quitting) is very close to him and it remains very close to him. When such a thing happens all possible thoughts go through a person's head."

Haug, though, did not go into details about whether it was just McLaren that the defending World Champ would walk away from or if he was thinking of leaving F1 entirely.

I know. I was just stating worst case scenario i which case of course he'd leave the team. I know it wont be a lifetime ban.

Well I actualy didnt mean write it off and not race, I meant write off defending the title and just enjoy the driving. Start afresh next year.

You have accused all of us who do not choose to jump on the Lewis bandwagon of being racists. That is insulting and as an argument, flawed.

And where in anything I have posted do I accuse everyone of being a racist. Honestly, wind your neck in and read what is there in black and white not what you imagine you see.

There is nothing wrong with praising Hamilton as you have. There is, however, something wrong with suggesting that anyone who disagrees with you has personal issues or is doing so due to racism, which you also have done on multiple occasions. You also have the tendency to bait an argument and then claim victim status when it happens. Anyone who takes issue with Hamilton's actions on and off the track has personal issues by your words...if that is not you attempting to start a fight (which was happily responded to) then I do not know what is.

Yes, many people take issue with a world champion lying to the stewards 15 minutes after he had just told the press another story and assuming he will get away with it. We take issue with his having several days to reconsider that action, but deciding instead to lie to the stewards a second time. I personally take issue with his having heard audio tape of him and his team discussing Trulli, and then his looking the stewards in the face and saying that conversation never took place. After he was penalized for all of this, he then calls a press conference and throws his team publicly under a bus. He just went from bad decision to bad decision to worse decision. I will apologize now, I suppose, for expecting the world champion to show some character. I realize you very much disagree and you have stated that he is the role model of all role models and is an absolute legend. I disagree...and expect a world champion to act like one.

Lol!!! Wheldon back to his country!! I wonder if were going to have any Indy drivers to F1 in 2010?

It would be nice to see more Indy drivers try their hand at F1, it makes the sport more diverse in terms of the "World Championship" meaning that not every driver will have come through GP2, F2, F3, F3 Euroseries etc.
