Renault require a driver who will do a solid job and contest further up the grid than Piquet is currently doing.

*cough* Bruno Senna *cough* ;)

Here's the question that annoyed me:

Your father was a great driver, but he could be rude. Do you share those characteristics with him?

Well, i haven't really had the need to do it to a team mate yet. But if i do need to, i have a good teacher.

Classy eh? :beans:

Well we saw what he's capable of when he slagged off Scott Speed a few years ago when he got an F1 drive for 2006 and Piquet was still stuck in GP2. It won't be long before he has a go at Alonso, that will be when Flavio gives him the big boot.

Please, we all know Grosjean has got the second seat at Renault already. If you haven't noticed, Grosjean is to Renault what Lewis has been to McLaren.

It's true for sure that Piquet hasn't been getting support from Renault. They seem to more angered than helpful in anyway. But F1 is a seriously competitive sport and Piquet isn't preforming at all. At least in other cases like Williams, Nakajima wasn't always behind Rosberg. On 2 or 3 occasions last year Nakajima out-qualied Rosberg. But Piquet has yet to out-quali Alonso at all. In fact, there has been but a single moment where Piquet was in front of Alonso and that was the french GP last year where Piquet actually overtook Alonso when he ran wide into turn 5. (Germany doesn't count, that was the biggest fluke in F1 history)

He's a fine racer in general. You don't get into F1 without earning it, and Piquet was 2nd only to Lewis in GP2 06. But he's got to F1 and lost it.

I think an interview with Martin Whitmarsh explains it better here

You can be extremely rapid in the juinor catergories, but F1 is completely different. Piquet has clearly failed to make the transistion. So in my opinion theres a lot more talent drivers out there ready to take his place.

Piquet will get the boot if Alonso goes elsewhere... or if he continues to do poorly.
I think he has improved a bit this season, but not enough to guarantee his seat. I wouldnt kick him out just yet, because both his drives this yr have been ok. Better than Heikki and Kazuki... but he needs to improve Qualifying.

One thing is clear: he's no Vettel. :)

His drive in Melbourne was OK??? he spun off all by himself on the restart after the SC!! i wouldnt call that ok by any standard :hehe:

You can't really blame him for Melbourne - that was all Ecclestone's doing.

I heard he had a brake problem which caused that spin. And in Malaysia he was slow but ok.

Brake problem. Methinks that Piquet doesn't know how to keep brake temperture.

Again, I'll just say this for emphaise. I'd be willing to bet £100 on the name Grosjean being painted on the 2nd Renault in 2010. Piquet would need to actually equal Alonso this year for Renault not to replace him. In my opinion the only reason they didn't do it for this year is because they want Grosjean to mature a bit more in Gp2 this year. Whilst they didn't hire Di Grassi because Di Grassi is like Alex Wurz. Not so great in over the weekend, but in terms of technincal set-up. Top of the sport. So really they were left with Piquet.

sure spinning out all by himslef is not 'Good' driving... but he has done worse  The SC took an awful long time out, and the Reanault is kinda known for having issues with the brakes... so we could cut him some slack there...... but agina, he probably has like 4 races to show he can drive or he should be sacked.

It would be funny if he puts in a stunning drive next weekend in China and takes the win at the last corner by overtaking Alonso around the outside.

Cold tyres and cold brakes. It's late afternoon, the safety car was out for a very long times. I honestly expected more people to suffer from it, to be honest.

I agree, I'm not shy about criticising Nelsinho, but that spin wasn't really his fault. The Safety Car was out way too long.

By the Italian and Spanish press, Nelson Piquet has been quoted as expressing frustration about his role alongside Fernando Alonso at Renault.

With pressure mounting on the 23-year-old Brazilian to show better in comparison to the former double world champion, Piquet reportedly admitted that the French team is built up around his Spanish teammate.

"I have a teammate that is quite strong and the team looks towards him," the European publications, including Spain's AS and Italy's Corriere dello Sport, quote Piquet as saying.

"I would like a situation in which the team looks towards me," he admitted.

We reported in the recent winter period that Renault was the only team that weighted the bulk of pre-season testing towards one race driver.

"Fernando wanted the most amount of time for testing and the team wanted it as well because they thought it was the fastest way to develop the car," Piquet agreed.

He also spoke about Renault's team boss, Flavio Briatore.

"He is not always right, and he can be very hard," Piquet said. "You have to be able to ignore the bad things and absorb the good ones."

He recalls times, such as in Singapore last year, when the team exercised perfect strategy calls for Alonso while "all the crap happens to me".

Eddie Irvine once likened being Michael Schumacher's teammate at Ferrari for four years to being repeatedly hit over the head with a cricket bat.

"It is very hard, yes," Piquet agreed. "I would say that it is almost just like that."

Do you mean, at Singapore where you crashed the car in to the wall before your pit stop? This is what you signed up for, Nelson...
