F1 car crashed at Renault road show
09 April 2009

Renault's road show of Dubai has seen its first day of demonstrations cut short after a crash for its Formula One car. The car, driven by UAE automobile club President - also the FIA's vice President for sport - Mohammed bin Sulayem, went out of control during a high-speed drag race against a Ford GT.

Bin Sulayem, invited by Renault to drive the car for the show which is scheduled to last until Sunday, was in a head-to-head challenge against Renault F1 test driver Romain Grojean, driving a Ford GT, when the R28 Formula 1 car of 2008 spun at the Dubai Autodrome as a result of wheelspin from a standing start. After hitting a concrete wall, the 14-time Middle East rally champion was taken to the medical centre, although a number of minutes were required for the driver to be extracted from the car.

"Fortunately he was uninjured and the car will be taken back to be repaired," a Renault spokesperson told The National. Thankfully for the French manufacturer, a second car is present in Dubai although work will be required to fix a hydraulics problem. Despite almost being collected by the spinning F1 car, the Ford GT of Grojean escaped unharmed. The road show will continue on Friday, with race driver Nelsinho Piquet at the wheel of the R28.

This is what happens when some moron decides that an F1 car should be drag raced against an american tractor....and that same moron further decides that it should be driven by some douche who doesn't possess the skillset needed to drive the thing.
American Tractor? Obviously you don't know your racing history :hehe:

Oh? Are you saying that a Ford GT is comparable to a current F1 race car, even if it is last year's model? Have you ever even sat in a Ford GT, let alone turned laps in one? I have turned those laps...and I stand behind what I said, it is a tractor in comparison to a modern F1 car. No, I was wrong...it is a lawn mower....a push type, walk behind lawn mower....electric.

Don't get me wrong, I would positively wet myself to have a GT as a daily driver...they are extremely fun and likely the most exotic and gorgeous car ever born in north america....but a track car in comparison to an F1 car of any era? No sir, not even close. A 15 year old formula C club race car with a 2 liter pinto motor would eat it's lunch on the track....a Formula one car of any era would leave it for dead. Further, forcing a formula one car to drag race like a common mustang? The organizer of that dog and pony show deserved what he got when the F1 car chose to destroy itself against a concrete wall rather than suffer the indignity of a drag race.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Furthermore, you can't stand behind something you didn't say. You would only have to look up at your original post to realize this. Even if you had compared the Ford GT to a Formula 1 car, exactly what point would you be trying to prove? Of course an F1 car is faster. Anyone with half a brain and a circumcision could see that.

A Ford GT... the most exotic and gorgeous car ever born in America?!

I'll give you a pass on the gorgeous part. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, on "most exotic", I will not. Have you ever heard of a Saleen S7? How about an Panoz GTR-1? SSC Aero? Vector W8? WX8? Obviously you have to be familiar with the Ford GT40 on which the GT was based... or perhaps I'm giving you too much credit :hehe:
