Plans for a new pitlane and paddock complex for Silverstone have been approved by the local council. The plans involve relocating the pit and paddock complex from their current position between Woodcote and Copse, to the straight between Club and Abbey. The council s approval means it is hoped that Silverstone will now be able to raise the standard of the track facilities to meet Bernie Ecclestone s requirements and therefore keep the British Grand Prix on the F1 calendar.
Further developments planned for the track over the next decade include a new business park, a sports and leisure complex, a manufacturer test centre and a university campus.
“We’re absolutely delighted that AVDC’s planning committee have unanimously voted in favour of this proposed development,†Silverstone s managing director Richard Phillips said.
“This is a turning point for Silverstone and a bold commitment towards the BRDC’s support for motorsport in the UK and retaining the British Grand Prix. The current programme provides for work to start on site later this year.”
