Kubica to stay with Renault?

Robert Kubica looks set to race with Renault next season after his manager hinted that the Pole is happy with the current management setup.

Kubica and his management, headed by Daniele Morelli, had asked for clarification after the Luxembourg-based Genii Capital bought a considerable share of the Estone team from the French manufacturer.

However speaking to BBC Sport, Morelli has now suggested that Kubica will drive for the team due to significant progress made in the talks between the two parties.

“We are going in the right direction,” he said. “There were no doubts, really, but it was very important we understood who were in the key roles in the team and of course also the budget – it is fundamental you have that for the updates to the car.”

The former BMW Sauber driver has been in limbo for most of the off-season with the future of Renault having been in doubt. Despite this, Morelli also denied that Kubica had delayed his decision as he was  seeking more money.

“It is totally untrue that we were asking for more money,” said Morelli. “It is not in our interests to take advantage. We want the money for the team.

“Robert wants a performing car. It’s useless if the driver gets more money if you have a weak car and lose [performance] bonuses. It’s better to score points and make podiums than to earn more money.”
