Kubica to race at the USGP?

Following his spectacular crash at Montreal, many expected Robert Kubica to miss this weekend’s US Grand Prix. However Kubica himself is still hoping to race this weekend, having sustained no injuries other than a sore ankle and mild concussion.

Kubica was discharged from hospital on Monday evening. In a statement he said, “I have no pain and feel well. I want to thank everyone for the medical attention I received and for all the good wishes. Mario Theissen and other team members came to visit me and also thanks to Jarno Trulli who cam as well. I am happy that I have been able to leave hospital so quickly and will now prepare for the race in Indianapolis.”

Before Kubica is allowed to race again, he will have to pass stringent medical checks set out by the FIA’s medical delegate. These are scheduled for Thursday, so the Pole has another day in which to recover. BMW have until 4pm (local time) on Thursday to announce who will partner Nick Heidfeld in the race.

BMW have confirmed that the accident was not down to a problem with the car – Kubica clipped the rear end of the Toyota of Trulli which sent him flying. Trulli himself has confimed this version of events saying “I had not moved from my line but when I saw the car roll over I was very concerned. When you see another colleague have such a big crash and you are hit from the back, it is not a nice feeling.”
