Hungary should suit us, hopes Rosberg

Nico Rosberg expects Williams to be stronger at Hungary than they have been in recent races, and is hoping for a good result after a disappointing run of form.

Since their podium finish at the season-opening grand prix in Melbourne, Williams results have taken a nose dive. The FW30 has proved a handful around the high-speed circuits with both drivers battling it out at the wrong end of the mid-field.

But in the low-downforce arenas of Monaco and Canada, Rosberg has excelled, the German qualifying an impressive sixth and fifth for the two races respectively. Shame then, that incidents and mistakes wrote off any chance of a decent points-haul.

Rosberg is confident however that the team can expect a good result at the twisty Hungaroring, which shares similar characteristics to Monaco and Canada.

“Hungary is one of the tracks that definitely should suit us,” he told his team s official podcast. “So I m looking forward to that and I think we have a good chance to do well there. Last year I qualified fourth, so there is a good chance for us there.”

“It s very physical, especially with the heat. It should be good for me, I ve done my homework in terms of training and I really hope that we can come back strongly there and have a good result.”

Rod Nelson, Williams Chief Operations Engineer, is under no allusions of the challenge facing the Grove-based outfit next weekend, but like Rosberg he is confident that track should suit the FW30 better.

“Hungary is quite a different circuit to most of the others,” he said. “It s very tight and twisty which means the drivers are fairly busy for the afternoon.”

“It s much more similar to Monaco, though obviously not as extreme. The circuit is historically very dirty, very hot and that always gives us problems on a Friday where we ve got extremely low grip.”

“And through the weekend the circuit just keeps on picking up grip and it s a question of chasing the balance that you get with that increased grip throughout the weekend.”

“We ve got a few developments that we ve tested this week in Jerez, so hopefully some of those will come home for us, and were looking forward to a better grand prix.”

“We were pretty competitive in Monaco and Canada Canada despite the fact that you have very high top speeds, all the corner speeds are very low, and that s where this car seems to excel.”
