Ferrari team management has been summoned to appear in front of the stewards following the controversial conclusion to this afternoon’s German Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso took his second victory of the season, but only after team-mate Felipe Massa moved over, following a radio conversation from his chief engineer, Rob Smedley.
Smedley was heard telling the Brazilian: “Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?”
Team orders were outlawed in the sport following the events of the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix, when Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher (then Ferrari team-mates) switched positions on the approach to the checkered flag.
