Williams in no rush to confirm 2008 driver line-up

Williams, who are currently evaluating their driver line-up for next year, have confirmed that test driver Kazuki Nakajima will be driving for the team on the Fridays of the final two 2007 season Grands Prix.

With the rumours over Alonso at McLaren, the future is unclear for many teams. Although Nico Rosberg has a contract with Williams for the 2008 season, there are rumours that should Alonso leave McLaren, Rosberg may take over his seat.

Current Williams driver Alex Wurz has failed to impress this season and it is likely will not be offered a race-seat for 2008. Instead, it is expected that he will be offered a testing role. It is therefore possible that Williams are on the look-out for two new drivers for the team.

However, Sam Michael, technical driver at Williams, has explained that the team are in no hurry to finalise their 2008 driver line-up, although many believe Nakajima is a strong contender thanks to his close link to Williams engine supplier, Toyota.

“Kazuki will drive the Fridays in Shanghai and Brazil,” Williams explained. “We have got a shortlist of drivers but I would not say we are close to making a decision. I would be surprised if it was done before the end of the season. It could be a few months though. We need to wait and see how things fall.”
