Rumours abound that Suzuka is to make a comeback in 2008. Suzuka was ousted as the host of the Japanese Grand Prix this season in favour of Fuji due to the circuit’s ageing facilities, a move which pleased Toyota after they spend considerable sums of money revamping the Fuji circuit.
However, many fans prefer the Suzuka circuit and specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport are claiming that Bernie Ecclestone is contemplating having two races in Japan for the 2008 season, in part thanks to pressure from it’s owner, Honda.
If Suzuka was to be reintroduced, it would fall under the guise of the ‘Pacific Grand Prix’, a name which was last used in 1995 when the circuit was twinned with a race in Aida. It is understood that Honda have agreed to foot the bill for the race next season at an estimated cost of $30 million.
