On the first day of testing at Jerez, Sebastien Vettel was the man to beat as he topped the timesheets with a 1:19.844. McLaren test driver Gary Paffett was the second quickest man of the day, closely followed by Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer.
There was just one red flag during the session, caused by Williams test driver Niko Hulkenberg.
The main drama of the day came courtesy of BMW Sauber when a mechanic was given an electric shock as he touched the car which had been kitted out with the new KERS kit. As a result of the accident, test driver Klien did not complete any timed laps as the team investigated what caused the issue.
