According to private radio network Cope, Valencia will be holding a Formula 1 street race in 2008. It is rumoured that Bernie Ecclestone will make an announcement about the second Spanish race in Barcelona later on this week.
It is believed that the Valencia race will be named the “European Grand Prix” – a name which has been freed up because the two German Grand Prix circuits now alternate years – this season, the German Grand Prix is to be held at the Nurburgring; next season, the Grand Prix will move to Hockenheim.
Meanwhile, there is confusion over the status of the Singapore Grand Prix. Some quarters are reporting that the government and the organisers of the race cannot agree how to fund the race, leaving it’s future in jeopardy; Others are reporting that a new company has been formed to help with the funding and that an announcement about the new circuit will be made at this weekend’s Barcelona Grand Prix. We wouldn’t advise you to hold you breath!
