Scuderia Toro Rosso are on the verge of announcing their new Technical Director, Giorgio Ascanelli. Ascanelli has been drafted in to replace the current technical chief, Alex Hitzinger. Hitzinger will be leaving the STR team and moving to sister team, Red Bull, where he will be in charge of the new energy recovery systems which are set to be introduced into F1 from next season.
Ascanelli has a lot of experience within Formula 1 – he has been a race engineer for Gerhard Berger at Ferrari and McLaren, and has also worked with both the late Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet. Ascanelli has recently also worked for Maserati’s sports car program.
