STR for sale?

Bernie Ecclestone is a little baffled as to why Dietrich Mateschitz feels the need to own two Formula 1 teams. Mateschitz owns Red Bull Racing. At the end of 2005, he also bought Minardi and rebranded it as Toro Rosso before selling a 50% share to fellow countryman and ex-Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger.

“Red Bull are super for Formula 1 but I wish they would have more success,” Ecclestone remarked. “I cannot understand why they have two teams. They should concentrate on one.”

There have been a number of rumours around over the future of Toro Rosso with possible links to German carmaker HWA or even Michael Schumacher and Willi Weber. However, Mateschitz has continually denied that his second team is for sale. “STR is not for sale,” he explained. “This rumour was invented by some super-clever people.”
