Reports from inside the Silverstone paddock has suggested that Bruno Senna has lost his seat at HRT and will be replaced by Sakon Yamamoto for this weekend’s British Grand Prix.
The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact in F1 so far this season, with the Spanish team’s challenger simply not up to scratch.
Writing on his twitter, BBC F1 commentator Jonathan Legard wrote: “Bruno Senna dropped for this weekend. Sakon Yamamoto replaces. Colin Kolles just said more details in the morning.”
It is thought that the decision may be financially-based, with Yamamoto expected to bring much needed sponsorship to the beleaguered squad. However, this point remains purely speculative and cannot be concluded as the reason at this present moment.
The Japanese driver has already driven this year’s Hispania car – featuring as test driver for the team in Turkey.
Tonight, an article published by the BBC shed more light on the subject; stating that a spokeswoman for the FIA had confirmed that Yamamoto would partner Karun Chandhok for this weekend’s race and would not merely be used as a tester.
Senna’s manager Chris Goodwin has also stated that it is “absolutely ridiculous” to suggest that the Brazilian had been made redundant. However, with team boss Colin Kolles not expected to comment on the matter until Friday morning the F1 world remains in the dark as to the real reason behind Senna’s removal.
