Michael Schumacher has been given a 20-second penalty for the last gasp overtaking manoeuvre that saw him take sixth place in the Monaco Grand Prix today.
The stewards deemed him to have contravened rule 40.13, which states that “if the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pitlane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking.”
Mercedes’ protestations that the field were racing again have evidently been to no avail, with Schumacher’s penalty meaning that he will drop to 12th place in the revised results.
