Rosberg staying

Technical director Sam Michael has refuted claims that Rosberg may head to another team for the 2008 season. Rosberg has impressed many in the F1 paddock in his second season and rumours have had him moving to Ferrari to replace an underperforming Kimi Raikkonen with Raikkonen moving to Williams.

However, Sam Michael has denied claims that Rosberg is leaving the team and insists that Rosberg has a contract with Williams for the 2008 season already. However, the future of Raikkonen is still unknown as it is understood there is a clause in his contract about team performance meaning he may be able to leave the Ferrari team at the end of the year if certain conditions are not met.

Sam Michael has also contradicted reports that Rosberg’s retirement at Indianapolis was down to an engine failure. Instead, he explained that an electrical fire set spilled oil ablaze but the engine itself was undamaged. A post-race investigation showed that Rosberg’s oil fire melted the rear suspension on the car.

“Theoretically, we could use it again at Magny-Cours,” Michael explained. “But since we can change it anyway without penalty, we might as well give him a fresh engine.”
