Rosberg on top in rain-affected Jerez morning

Nico Rosberg has posted the fastest time in the morning session so far at Jerez de la Frontera. The Mercedes GP driver led the timings at a rain-soaked Jerez, which has resulted in slower times and some reluctance from some teams to go out.

Williams’ Nico Hulkenberg has completed 37 laps of the track, the most of any driver, posting the third best time so far. Mark Webber has also taken his new RB6 for a run, but languishes at the bottom of the list. Both Toro Rossos have also gone out, as has Jenson Button, sporting a strange device above his McLaren’s sidepods which team sources indicate are in order to better measure airflow.

Ferrari are currently reported to be exploring the track in the hands of Fernando Alonso, although are yet to post the sort of competitive time the like of which was seen in Valencia. Also eagerly awaited is the new Virgin Racing team’s first run in anger, which is expected later today.
