Renault leave GPMA

Renault F1Renault have announced that they have left the GPMA with immediate effect. The remaining teams in the GPMA are just Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Honda.

Toyota left last August as it became clear that there was a stand-off between the car manufacturers and the sport’s governing body and the threat of a breakaway championship to rival Formula 1 was coming to a close.

Renault have said that they believe in order to achieve a constructive dialog between the FIA and the future of Formula 1, is was important to work in consultation with all manufacturers, including Toyota and Ferrari.

Renault have also reaffirmed their long-term commitment to Formula 1 by supplying Red Bull Racing with engines for 2007. They have said that they are looking forward to collaborating with other manufacturers and the FIA in areas such as better on-track ‘shows’, sustainability, and meaningful cost-reductions.
