Re-signing Massa “not a priority” for Maranello

An Italian source has suggested that Ferrari are in no rush to re-sign Felipe Massa for next season.

The Brazilian’s contract is up at the end of the season, and although positive noises have recently been made about Ferrari’s intention of retaining the 2008 championship runner-up, an unnamed Ferrari spokesman said a deal was not yet on the table.

He is reported to have told Italy’s Sportevai that the subject is “not currently a priority”.

Massa appears to have lost none of his speed in the wake of his accident last year, is well-liked within the team and would probably be Fernando Alonso’s preferred option in the other seat. But there are persistent rumours that Sebastian Vettel will eventually go to the team, and Robert Kubica is reported to see his Renault seat as only a temporary position.
