Kimi Raikkonen ushered his Ferrari to the fastest time today at the Circuit de Catalunya. The Finn was interrupted only by a small reliability glitch on his way to the top of the timesheets, and told reporters afterwards that there was more speed to come from the new F60.
”We haven’t pushed the car 100% yet,” he said.
The 2007 world champion was followed by Kazuki Nakajima, whose Williams again startled observers with its performance, and the returning Rubens Barrichello with the third fastest time. Barrichello will have reinforced the perception that his Brawn team are set to be the surprise of the season. However, the Brawn team is yet to announce sponsorship, and so the Barcelona speed could be down to low fuel, to impress any potential sponsor.
The new Toro Rosso was at the foot of the times, but for a brand new car the team will not be too downhearted.
The times were as follows:
1. RAIKKONEN Ferrari 1m20.314s 2. NAKAJIMA Williams 1m20.907s 3. BARRICHELLO Brawn 1m20.966s 4. TRULLI Toyota 1m21.182s 5. WEBBER Red Bull 1m21.347s 6. HEIDFELD BMW 1m21.615s 7.
