Kimi Raikkonen made a surprise appearance at testing in Jerez yesterday. Dressed casually, he donned a pair of unmarked red headphones from Ferrari’s garage and proceeded to follow Ferrari’s radio traffic. Raikkonen has not yet been released from his McLaren contract so is unable to test this year.
He was accompanied by his trainer Mark Arnall, who has also switched from McLaren to Ferrari. Raikkonen also spoke to Felipe Massa and sat in on the engineers briefing. A spokesperson for Ferrari said that Raikkonen “was there just to learn a bit about how the team works.” He was also spotted wandering down to the McLaren garage to chat with his old friends.
On an overcast day, Lewis Hamilton proved to be quickest however he had to come in early after running out of track and damaging his car. His team put out a statement saying “The test team have repaired Lewis’ car to enable him to continue running tomorrow.”
