No penalty for first engine change of the season

It has been reported that F1 teams will no longer suffer a penalty for the first engine change of the season. In recent times, an engine change during practice sessions has resulted in a 10-place grid slot penalty, or an engine change after qualifying results in the driver starting from the back of the grid.

However, following a meeting of team principals earlier in the month, it was agreed that the first engine change of the season would no longer attract a penalty.

Currently, the minor rule tweak has not yet been approved the proposal still needs to be formally approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council however with all the team principals backing the idea, it is expected that the rule tweak will be voted in.
