Night race in Melbourne?

Australia could be the first country to host a night race according to rumours. Bernie Ecclestons has been talking about racing under floodlights a lot over the past few days and has already been in talks with Singapore about possibly hosting a night race.

Ecclestone is now keen to talk to Australian GP promoter Ron Walker about the possibility of having a night race to open the F1 calendar.

Talking to Melbourne newspaper The Age, Walker said, “We are looking at it and when Bernis gets here, we’ll talk to him about it again. He hasn’t said to me that we have to do it – it’s an option.”

Other contenders for a night race include China, Japan and South Korea. Night races here would be both for the novelty factor, and to gain a better timeslot for European and American F1 fans.
