Apparent troubles for New York’s inaugural grand prix could be good news for Texas, according to reports in the United States.
Bernie Ecclestone said on Tuesday that the race scheduled for mid next year on the streets of New Jersey could be pushed back to 2014. Austin broadcaster KXAN reported that the news could mean the organisers in Austin, scrambling to have the bespoke Circuit of the Americas ready for this November’s US grand prix, can get immediate access to state funding.
But a spokesman for the Texas comptroller said: “Any situation with the New Jersey race would not change the decision to not pay funds in advance of Austin’s Formula One race.”
