New Indianapolis circuit design

Indianapolis, current home of the US Grand Prix, has had a new 16 turn course designed for it. The new circuit has been designed so the track can host it s first motorcycle race since the inaugural event in August 1909. Although Indianapolis will not be on the 2008 F1 calendar, it is hoped it will be back in 2009 and if it does, many believe that this new circuit will be the track the cars race on. The FIA have already signed the new track off as suitable for use for Formula 1 cars.

“One of the things that we did moving forward is we, and I m not sure if it might be the only time, but we had a join FIM/FIA inspection,” Speedway president Joie Chitwood explained. “So any changes that are being made to the road course, should Formula 1 ever return, we still could use those changes for Formula 1.”
