New FIA Deputy President

Franco Lucchese, an Italian who is the president of the Automobile Club d’Italia, has been elected the new FIA Deputy President for Mobilty and the Automobile, replacing Sebastia Salvado. Salvado had only been in the position for a year but has stood down because he did not have enough time to dedicate to both the FIA and the Royal Automobile Club of Catalunya, which he runs.

Lucchesi is a lawyer and was President of the Automobile Club of Florence for 16 years before becoming President of the ACI in 2001.

The FIA Deputy President (Sport) is still Marco Piccinini. This means that both Max Mosley’s deputies are Italian. China has also been given a place on the World Motor Sport Council with Wan Heping, the Vice Chairman of the Federation of Automobile Sports of the People’s Republic of China (FASC).
