Montoya Attacks Schumacher

NASCAR newcomer Juan Pablo Montoya has blasted former F1 driver Michael Schumacher a “nobody” after the German criticised the rookie’s new sport.

Schumacher has put serious question marks over the nature of the Columbian’s move to America from F1 but the former Williams and McLaren driver told SI.com: “People don’t understand what a big challenge this style of racing is.”

“Schumacher, take him to Homestead and tell him to stay half a second of the pace. He’ll have a heart attack. Schumacher in America is a nobody.”

This comes after Schumacher gave an interview to the New York Times. “Personally, I wouldn’t do it, what do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there? I can’t see that, running around on ovals.”

Montoya also added, that if the 7 times F1 Champion would make a move to NASCAR, the hotheaded South American would have the experience to beat him.

“It would be a hard transition (for Schumacher) for sure,” he said. “It’s not an easy transition. I had the advantage that I raced two years of ovals and did a little bit of stock cars with little ones when I started my career. All that really helps.”
