McLaren drivers skip Turkish GP build-up

Both McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are noticeably absent from the Thursday build-up in anticipation of the weekend s racing at Istanbul Park in Turkey.

The media spotlight was already firmly on the McLaren duo and their working relationship, a spotlight which became ever more intense at the Hungarian Grand Prix thanks to some pit-lane antics. The two drivers are wisely staying away from the media in Turkey so far, preferring to stay in downtown Istanbul than heading to the circuit.

Both of the drivers have sponsorship commitments in the morning. Neither has been called to the official FIA press conference on Thursday afternoon and so the team decided to hold their team meeting in downtown Istanbul rather than at the circuit itself.

The team are hoping to put the controversy of the Hungarian Grand Prix behind them, and the team meeting today is believed to be partly a way to clear the air within the team so that everyone can fully focus on the weekend s racing.
