Lopez set to snatch USF1 drive

USF1 look set to confirm Jose Maria Lopez as one of their drivers on Monday after the Argentine’s management confirmed that a deal has been struck.

Lopez’s spokesman, Miguel Mattos, confirmed that the driver now has the necessary funding to complete the deal, which is rumoured to have been collected from a number of sources, including the Argentine government.

“Everything has been agreed and the official announcement will be made on Monday,” Mattos told Reuters on Friday.

The 26-year-old is a former member of Renault’s driver development programme and has previously competed in Formula 3000 and GP2.

USF1 has yet to confirm a driver for their upcoming debut season.
