India’s first Formula 1 driver is the latest driver to sign up to the new Speedcar series starting later on this year. Karthikeyan is currently a test driver for Williams, and his name is the latest on a long list of stars from across the motorsport world who will take part in the new stock car championship which sees 24 identical 600 bhp cars racing at venues across Asia and the Middle East.
Karthikeyan is the first Asian driver who has announced his participation. Having raced in various formulas through his career including Formula 3, Formula Nippon and the Dallara Nissan World Series, Karthikeyan is looking forward to the new challenge. “I am very much looking forward to being part of the new Speedcar series,” he said. “It is obviously very competitive with great names such as Jean Alesi and Johnny Herbert, and it will be very exciting to pit myself against these legends of Formula 1.
“The winter series is perfect for me as I can concentrate on Formula 1, my main obligation, but also be a part of a really serious racing series that keeps me competitive and racing, my only amibition.”
