James Hunt’s Hesketh F1 Car To Be Sold

If you are looking to buy a piece of F1 history, the perfect piece of Formula One memorabilia is coming up for sale this summer.

The car that legendary F1 superstar James Hunt took his first race win in will be sold at Silverstone later this year. The white Hesketh Chassis 308/2 featuring the distinctive red and blue stripes and teddy bear logo won the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort with Hunt at the helm. The car was the last privately-entered car to win a grand prix without commercial sponsorship.

The V8 engine is a Ford-Cosworth DFV with a Hewland gearbox.

The car itself featured in 23 race starts with Hunt piloting for 17 of them. When Hunt left Hesketh for McLaren, Guy Edwards and Harald Ertl piloted the car until Hesketh Racing left F1 in 1978.

Its debut was the 1974 Spanish Grand Prix; the first podium finish for the car was the ’74 Swedish Grand Prix.

The car will be up for sale during the Silverstone Classic weekend on Saturday July 23rd by Silverstone Auctions.
